MODEL BUILDING TIPS

This model will require more than one sitting to build it. We advise to pause between different stages as you work, especially when you come to gluing. The white glue softens the paper and it may lead to misshapen parts if you do not allow them to dry well before proceeding further with assembling. Click here to watch our paper model building tips.

Give yourself enough time to enjoy the process and achieve the best result!

ABOUT THIS LANDMARK

The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot-high (192 m) monument in St. Louis, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of a flattened catenary arch, it is the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, Missouri's tallest accessible building, and the world's tallest arch.

Its sleek, stainless steel surface and unique catenary curve design make it an iconic example of mid-20th century modernist architecture. The Arch is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, forming a central part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.

The structure is a feat of engineering, featuring a tram system that takes visitors to an observation area at the top, offering panoramic views of St. Louis and the Mississippi River. The construction of the Arch was a complex process, involving the precise joining of its two legs, which were built separately. This engineering achievement was a significant risk at the time, as slight miscalculations could have prevented the legs from meeting at the top.

The Gateway Arch not only serves as a popular tourist attraction but also symbolizes the city of St. Louis's role as the 'Gateway to the West' during the 19th century.
